I’ve found a great new website if you like walking..........
..........It's called Walking Maps and has walking routes round areas of central Melbourne as well as in metropolitan Melbourne and further afield.........
..........so if you’ve already done all the other walks on my site(?!) and are looking for some more routes then this website provides plenty more options.
I’ve done one of the walks and a bit of another. The Waterways one was easy with a pram and nice and relaxing.........
..........except you can’t walk completely around the lakes but have to walk round some of the houses which is a shame but this was mentioned in the Points of Interest..........
..........There’s also a good café to end up at which is nice.
The Brighton Architectural Walk looks good for those interested in buildings..........
.........The above photo is of a house which was initially started by a successful gold miner but he became unsuccessful a year or so later.........
.........running out of money due to high construction costs and an economic slump and was made bankrupt.........
..........The house was extended and improved some years later by a William Weatherly who later became a director of BHP. It's now owned by the Council and you can walk around the grounds.
Walking Maps is a site where people can write in their own walks which is fun but obviously this may make routes a little hard to follow sometimes I would have thought.
The website was created by Victoria Walks which is a not-for-profit organisation that is funded by VicHealth. They are keen to get people out and about walking to help prevent obesity.
Walks are through neighbourhoods, parks, around historical areas, about arts and cultures, indigenous areas, natural history and even foodie walks apparently..(?!!).......
.........Not sure about this last one but I suppose if you are walking to and from the foodie areas instead of driving then that’s ok!!
The walks are rated on time, distance and difficulty, with most having background information to make the walk interesting and educational.
Check out their website at Walking Maps.
